[CD] Vol. III: Primitive Normative is Plaid On Flannel’s third full-length album, released in 2015. The 15-song LP was recorded by singer-songwriter Nolan Randall during the first couple of years of the Plaid On Flannel band. And some of the songs ended up as staples for the band’s live show. Four of which were re-recorded with band members for 2 EPs in 2016-17.
The 63-minute record expanded Plaid On Flannel’s sound to include more keyboard playing. Vol III: Primitive Normative is Plaid On Flannel’s only concept album outside of 2025’s Parkdale Fever. With an “individual vs. the mask” lyrical theme. And the struggle of life’s growing pains. Songs like “Primal Desire” and “Rusty Domingo” provide a heavy blues rock tone with gritty guitar riffs and solos. While softer tunes like “Normal Life” and “Team Of People” dive into a calm and introspective mood.
